Carrot Apple Ginger Juice and Mango Smoothie
Hello fellow foodies. It’s been a whirlwind of a week. House hunting may sound like a blast, but it’s a headache, I tell ya. One place has one thing, but it lacks something else, and so on, and so on. At this point, I am grateful that I even sold my house. So many emotions come up when you are trying to find the right place to rest your weary head. Just like preparing healing food, I have to remember that things are better when you take your time. Now if only I could heed my own advice!
So far, we have two contenders: a peaceful, zen abode tucked away in the hills, or a salty beach shack that is steps to the sand. Both are small, but humbly and happily formed, and they both have great schools for our son Jake. Hopefully we can reach an affordable agreement with one or the other so it will come together soon.
I promised you all last week that I would share with you my favorite juice: Carrot, apple, and ginger. It has the simple sweetness of apples and carrots, with a gentle zing of ginger. This juice packs a powerful punch of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. To make the tastiest and most nutritionally beneficial juice, go organic, and use the freshest fruit and vegetables possible. Do not to let these gorgeous specimens sit in the fridge all week. They are the purest form of vitamins around. Don’t lose it, use it my friends!
Using a juicer (I love my Waring Pro. It’s powerful and easy to clean)), put in one ingredient at a time: first the carrots, ginger, then the apples. I put the ginger in second, so the apples really squeeze the ginger juice through.
The three ingredients above are my life raft to deliver that extra ooomph when my energy starts to flag. On the left is Bee Pollen, on the right is Maca powder, and on the bottom are Goji Berries. All three are known to increase immunity. Here are some of their benefits:
- Bee Pollen increases energy and is loaded with protein and antioxidants.
- Maca increases stamina and performance, balances hormones, and helps with mental clarity.
- Goji berries (also called Wolfberries) slows down the aging process, helps control obesity, and lowers blood pressure.
You can find them at your local health food store or online at any raw food website (try rawguru.com). Instead of coffee, I throw them into a smoothie, and BANG, I’m back in action.
